The HDHUB is pleased to announce the broadcast of Great White Shark: A Living Legend. The 48min documentary, produced by Off The Fence and directed by Joe Kennedy, was premiered this Friday 2nd January 2009, on BBC2 Natural World.
The documentary explored many myths about the shark, including the “man-eater” myth made famous by the film Jaws and also examined how intelligent sharks are.
The film follows South African naturalist Mike Rutzen who goes on a quest to understand the great white shark better. He never saw Jaws, so he doesn't share the terror that has made these sharks the world's most feared predator.
For ten years Mike has been swimming with great whites, without the protection of a cage. He has spent so much time in their company that he has learnt to read their body language and to think like a shark. It is this knowledge that keeps him safe.
Mike's quest to understand them better now takes him into the heart of a seal ambush site where he hopes to witness their hunting behaviour from underwater. The HDHUB completed the HD online and grade of the documentary. The multi-format documentary was a challenge, comprising DVCPROHD, HDV (both 50i and 60i) and HDCAM SR.
