September 2009 saw the commencement of 11 weeks of principal photography for the epic 12 part series, Nutopia/ Film Africa co-production “America: The Story of Us”. The series covers 400 years of American history, and promises a fresh outlook on the moments that built the world's most powerful nation.
Local production company Film Africa requested the services of HDHub for the daily editorial needs of the project. The variety of digital formats used for the series, included over 250 HDCAM tapes, as well as Varicam footage on DVCPRO HD tape, XDCAM EX footage, and footage from Phantom and pencilcam sources.
With nearly 200 hours of footage to transfer and digitise, CAR staff and assistant editors at HDHub worked round the clock to ensure maximum efficiency in the daily workflow. This especially for the six weeks when HDHub edit suites hosted British editors Mark Gravil and Andy Worboys, who began their assemblies on Avid Media Composer systems.
The Cape Town shoot wrapped in the second week of December. “America: The Story of Us” is due to be aired on The History Channel US in April 2010.
